This is one of those blog posts I never wanted to write.
After a lot of thought, I’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the current pre-order for Nothing Haunts Like a Heart and postpone its release.
Before anything else, I want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who pre-ordered the book, shared it, added it to your reading lists, and sent me messages asking about Miranda, Mack, and Grier. Your excitement for this story has meant more to me than I can adequately express.
The truth is simple: the book isn’t ready yet.
I’ve spent the last several months living inside this story. What began as a paranormal romance has grown into something much bigger, deeper, and more emotionally complex than I originally planned. The relationships between these characters have surprised me. The story has demanded more of me as a writer. And somewhere along the way, I realized that if I released the book on its original schedule, I wouldn’t be giving it—or you—the version it deserves.
As an indie author, one of the greatest privileges I have is the ability to make decisions based on the quality of the story rather than a deadline on a calendar. While I never like disappointing readers, I would rather delay a book than publish one before it’s truly ready.
I know delays can be frustrating. Believe me, I’m frustrated too.
I’ve fallen completely in love with this story. I want Nothing Haunts Like a Heart to be the kind of book that stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page, closed the covers, and closed your eyes. Right now, I know there are scenes that need more time, emotions that need to be explored more deeply, and character moments that deserve additional attention.
The good news is that the book is absolutely still coming.
Nothing Haunts Like a Heart will be published in 2026.
This is not a cancellation of the project. It’s simply a delay so I can make the story everything I believe it can be.
Over the coming months, I’ll continue sharing updates, snippets, behind-the-scenes looks at the writing process, and progress reports here on the blog and through my newsletter. In fact, if you’ve been following my writing updates, you already know this book has become one of the most ambitious projects I’ve ever tackled—and I’m more excited about it than ever.
