31,525 words in, and this story is unfolding in ways I didn’t entirely expect—in the best way. The characters are getting louder, the tension is tightening, and the emotional stakes? Let’s just say … no one is walking away untouched.
There’s still a long road ahead, but this feels like a turning point. The kind where everything deepens, sharpens, and hurts a little (or a lot).
What’s been surprising me most during this phase is how the relationships are evolving. Connections that started off as simple or straightforward reveal layers—complicated, messy, and very human. There’s a push and pull happening now, a sense of inevitability mixed with resistance, and it’s creating the tension I love to write … and love to feel as a reader.
I’ve also hit that point in drafting where the story asks more of me. It’s no longer just about getting the words down—it’s about listening more closely, digging a little deeper, and trusting the instincts that brought me here. Some scenes are coming out softer than I expected, others sharper, more intense. All of them feel necessary.
Maybe that’s what this stage is really about: trust. Trusting the story. Trusting the characters. Trusting that even when things get a little chaotic on the page, they’re leading somewhere meaningful.
